McCall

We flew to Boise, ID last Wednesday and drove up to the beautiful town of McCall in western Idaho for our Sanders family reunion.  We had a lot of fun and it was great to see all my brothers, sisters, cousins, aunts, uncles, and grandparents.  We especially had fun hanging out with our nieces and nephew.  Liz already has an excellent summary of events and pictures on her blog, (Here it is.) so I just included some of my favorite pictures that didn't make the cut in her blog.  If you would like high-quality or unedited pictures of any of these shots, let me know.  Or if there's any other pictures you think we took that you'd want, I can probably find those, too.  Enjoy!

Huntington Beach

This weekend, we attended the US Open of Surfing in Huntington Beach.  We only watched 2 heats of head to head battles, but it was pretty fun.  We actually ended up seeing the winner of the whole competition, Julian Wilson, a young dude from Australia.

Then, we watched some amateur skateboarding in a portable skatepark set up on the beach near the pier.  I'm not a skater or a surfer, but I still enjoy watching and taking pictures.

There were lots of vendors and free swag at this event as well.  Definitely had the feeling of a state fair, except the marketing was targeted towards the surfer/skateboarder crowd.  Got some free beef jerky, smoothies, and sunglasses.  The red sunglasses were our free ticket into a musical chairs tournament where the winner won a free Ipad.  Lizzy was in the final 6 with a bunch of muscly dudes.  Unfortunately, she lost and we are still without an Ipad.  If you're reading this blog Apple, we'd still appreciate a free one.

Then we spent the rest of the day, swimmin', reading books, and chillin' on the beach.  It was a good beach day and it's nice to be so close to the ocean now.  Lizzy forgot I that I didn't grow up in California and asked me 'what kind of things I did at the beach growing up'.  I said, "You mean the beaches on the lakes or the few vacations we had down in Florida?".  It's nice to have a cool vacation destination about an hour away from our house.
